May update and Axolotl pattern

Hi everybody! I guess it’s been a while. May was crazy with work and many things that needed to be done before I left for the summer, so there have been no updates. I’ve neglected the weekly patterns as well, but I’ll start those again soon πŸ™‚

I arrived at my mother’s house yesterday, and for once I was able to crochet some on the bus here (ten hours is a long time if you can’t do anything), and so I managed to make and attach all the temperature hexes for May! I still have a lot of ends to weave in, so I’m far from caught up, but getting there πŸ˜€

The first red days! Meaning the temperature has been over 20 degrees (21-25 C). Whew! And the two days in a row when the lowest temperature never went below 11….. I nearly had a heat stroke! πŸ˜›

And this week’s pattern is the Axolotl! It’s already been reduced for a week now, but I’ll keep it up for at least another week since I’ve failed to even mention it. Heh.

April update and secret project

I guess you’re tired of hearing me talking about the thing I can’t talk about? πŸ˜› Well, now I’m done and the recipient has received the thing and everybody’s happy πŸ™‚

Ta dah! This is the thing I made. Pretty big!

It started when a friend of ours mentioned that he should have a tardigrade on a banner for his family (because of word play reasons), and he suggested a slogan and everything. It was said kind of in passing years ago, so I don’t think he expected it to happen. But then another friend suggested we all chipped in and had one made since his 40th birthday was coming up this year. I said I could make it because it sounded like a fun project, and here we are πŸ™‚

I drew the tardigrade by hand, cut it out from yellow fabric and machine sewed it to the black bit. Same with the yellow letters on top. They were a pain to cut because of the size and angles (the fabric Β is coarser than it looks, and frayed a bit even with the iron-on sticky stuff on the back). Then I stitched the details on the animal by hand, and finally the words on the bottom.

Look at that face! πŸ˜€

Tried some stem stitch for the words on the bottom

I’d never done free hand embroidery in my life, so this was a bit of a learning experience! I think I managed fine πŸ™‚ It was fun experimenting with different stitches πŸ˜€

After the front was all sewed, I made four loops for the top, and sewed the whole thing together with a gray fabric for the back. I would’ve used black, but I didn’t have enough, and the banner was going on a wall anyway.

The banner is about 50 cm wide and 125 cm long. Biggest thing I’ve ever made πŸ™‚

And as for my temperature blanket, that got neglected while I worked on the banner, so I never got round to fixing the ends that were left from last month… Which meant that I had a month and a half of ends to weave in once I managed to catch up on the hexes. That only took me three days or something, but I’ll be weaving in ends for weeks :/

Anyway, here’s April πŸ™‚ Had a few warm days during Easter, which was nice. Don’t really need it to get any warmer, though πŸ˜›

All the ends… So many ends…

March update and Easter patterns

Hi! It’s been a while… This monthly update is almost three weeks late, and I haven’t posted about the last couple of weekly patterns either, so there’s a lot to catch up!

20170402_202742-1

First, here’s how far I’ve gotten on my temperature blanket πŸ™‚ I managed to take this picture of the completed month of March, but then I never got round to blogging about it. It may look like all the ends are nicely woven in, but really they’re just cleverly hidden under the blanket πŸ˜› I fell behind for a while and was suddenly in a hurry to catch up before March ended so I could take the picture. I’ve since added some of the hexes for April, but I’m falling behind again because of work and holidays and other craft projects, so we’ll see if I can manage to catch up towards the end of this month…

Last day of March was a warm one! πŸ™‚

Second, I’ve been slacking with my Pattern of the Week posts as well, and I do apologise. I had two Eastery pattern for sale, but I think I forgot to post anything about them, except for maybe on Twitter. I was suddenly called in to work for several days, and then we were going away for the Easter (which is really long here in Norway), so we were busy packing and stuff. And while we were away (until yesterday), internet was limited, so I tried to keep my posting and photo uploads to a minimum. Not the best advertisement strategy, though…

But even if you missed out on these pattern deals during the holiday, you can still get the patterns now and then make them for next year or something πŸ™‚ I will keep them discounted for another week, or week and a half, since it’s now Thursday. So you have until Sunday the 30th πŸ˜€

February update

20170302_204931-12

Here’s the latest on my blanket πŸ˜›

20170302_205006-1

February was overall a pretty cold month, but I finally got to make a yellow hexagon! The highest temperature that day was 10.6 degrees C, so I rounded up to 11 so I could switch to yellow instead of green πŸ˜› Ten more months to go!

We even got three days in a row with below -5 temperatures πŸ™‚

January update

Are you tired of hearing about my blanket yet? Don’t worry, I think I’ll stick to monthly updates from now on, if that… I hope I will have other stuff to post about throughout the year as well πŸ™‚ But I’m just very excited that I’ve managed to complete a whole month and I wanted to share πŸ˜€

20170201_183304-1

This is until yesterday, January 31st, as you can see. I love how it turns out, and I’m very pleased with my choice of colors. Not too bright πŸ™‚ But I wish the temperature would go up a little soon. Not because I wish for warmer weather (I really don’t), but I feel like getting some yellow in there πŸ˜›

And since it’s now February and Valentine’s is coming up, I want to post a little reminder of this pattern I did last year, for these two adorable little love bugs and a heart. Three patterns for the price of one! Available on Etsy and Ravelry. But, if you’re not in the mood for bugs, you can always just make the heart πŸ˜€

2016-02-05-14.41.54.jpg.jpeg

I won’t have any new patterns for Valentine’s Day this year, as I have a deadline for some other projects at the end of this month. Hopefully I’ll have something new and exciting to show you soon! πŸ™‚
